Mama Mia, one of my favourite destinations for pizza.
This review is well overdue, so apologies. I've visited Peter's too many times to count but had forgotten my camera every time (I know, rookie blogger error). To celebrate the end of our dissertations, the girls and I decided we needed a well deserved feast. After having one to many down at the Orange Tree, we headed over to Peter's for some Italian grub.
Peter's is an Italian restaurant which serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas. The interior is super quirky. It's honestly mental inside - old school boardgames, a huge themed communal table, lots of film posters and art on the walls. They switch up the décor every so often, so there's always something new every time you visit.
After losing one to many times at Connect Four, our lovely waiter David told us to venture downstairs to check out the giant TMNT mural. See what I mean? Really wacky.
Enough about the ninja turtles. Peter's serves 9 different pizzas and 10 optional extra toppings. All the pizzas are made with a sourdough base but they do have a gluten free option. I haven't tried all 9, but I've had a fair few and Number 3 is always my favourite. Number 3 consists of tomato, ricotta cheese, salami, mozzarella, pistachios and white truffle oil. Mmmmmm...it smells Incredible.
Psst...if you check in on Facebook you get your first extra topping for free!
We opted for some homemade lemonade while we had a re-match of Connect Four. Laura chose Number 3 as well, and other Laura went for Number 5 - tomato, sliced black truffle, rocket leaves, parmesan shavings and added some free parma ham with her Facebook check in. Also I promise all my friends aren't called Laura.
The kitchen is open, which if you're a regular reader you'll know I absolutely love, so you can see the wood-fired brick oven cooking away. I really liked the sourdough texture of the base and the charred smokey taste from the pizza ovens. For me, the truffle oil really makes Number 3 my favourite choice as it's not overly greasy.
If you're in need of a break from the American stodgy pizzas, head over to Peter's for some authentic Italian love.
Although we were pretty full from the pizzas, we couldn't resist the Peterella. Nutella spread all over a sourdough pizza, topped with hazelnuts and dusted with icing sugar.
It was pretty good, although we all agreed some chopped strawberries or something extra would have cut through the gooey consistency of the Nutella. They serve other funky Dolci too if Nutella isn't your thing, which all arrive in cute little jars.
To top it all off the bill arrived in this cheeky croc's mouth.
Queue: We visited on a Wednesday at round 7:30pm and were seated straight away, however I've been turned away on occasion if we didn't have a booking.
Price: For a pizza, drink and shared pudding it was just over £10. If you're going all out it's probably more like £15 each.
Ambience: Ridiculous funky interior, perfect for a chilled evening. They do take away pizzas and serve breakfast too. There's a Peter's just opened up in Leicester, if Loughborough is a bit far for you.
For crust's sake, you knead to book a table at Peter's asap. Doughn't go anywhere else, it's the yeast you could do... I'll stop now.
